Week 4 Tuesday

Hi Parents, sorry about the late posting. I was one of the Pahoia School Staff who had a professional development course at Selwyn Ridge Primary School from 4PM.

Pahoia School Staff firmly believe that a THRASS chart is an essential tool to assist your child with reading and spelling. Steve Wadsworth has made it possible for every home to have a THRASS chart free of charge. There will be one per family. Room 3 children are the first to get their copy and brought one home for your family today even if they aren't the oldest in your family at school. The cards are worth $6 each which all adds up when you times that by the number of families at Pahoia School. This shows how serious we are about THRASS. The spelling homework from now on will incorporate these charts.

SPELLING HOMEWORK:

Test your child on the two words numbered below. These two words have been discussed and THRASS’ed in class. This homework will not be marked in class. If your child lacks the motivation to give this a go please let me know.

Spelling homework was sent home on a seperate photocopied sheet. Below is the contents copied and pasted as plain text:

1.Super
Lots of words start with the word super. You might need a dictionary to help you answer the following questions.
a) You buy groceries at a super_______________
b) A person in charge making sure others work is a super_______________
c) Something of excellent quality is super_______________
d) An allowance for an older person is super_______________
e) The opposite of deep and profound is super_______________
2.heroes
How many more words can you think of that have the “oe” sound like heroes? Eg. Toe.
Optional Extension: Test your child on the super words in a - e above.

READING HOMEWORK:

Mercury: Fluency box book
Venus: Fluency box book
Earth: Fluency box book
Mars: Fluency box book
Saturn: Fluency box book
Jupiter: Fluency box book
Uranus: Optional Fluency box book (will have library books or their own books from home otherwise)

Every child changed their book for a new one if needed (some children assured me they hadn't had time to read the one they already had so will bring that same book home again)
